September 30, 2021

Kansas City, MO – Small College Basketball is excited to announce the launch of the SCB Podcast for the 2021-22 season. Former Division II Men’s Basketball Coach Chris Cottrell has been announced as the host of the new podcast. Cottrell has more than 10 years of collegiate coaching experience and more than 14 years of basketball coaching experience overall. John McCarthy had this to say about Small College Basketball launching a new podcast:

"I'm thrilled to launch the Small College Basketball Podcast,” stated McCarthy. “This will be a highly visible and very informative platform, as we'll be able to bring attention to the great players, coaches, teams, games, history, etc. of college basketball at the small college levels. Chris Cottrell is a coach, and he's smart, prepared, articulate and passionate. I'm so grateful that he's joining our team."

The Small College Basketball Podcast will promote college basketball teams, players, and coaches across the NCAA Division II, NCAA Division II, NAIA, USCAA and NCCAA levels. Weekly episodes include highlights, interviews and insights celebrating small college basketball’s best programs, teams, players, coaches, and alumni at levels beyond NCAA Division I. Cottrell touched on his excitement on the creation of the podcast:

“I am so humbled to join John McCarthy and his team at Small College Basketball, to launch the Small College Basketball Podcast,” stated Cottrell. “Small college basketball is itself an artform, and no one does a better job of promoting the players, teams, and coaches at those levels beyond Division I, like John.  My hope is that the podcast will further enhance what John is already doing to celebrate and bring attention to small college basketball across the country.”

In 2008 Cottrell started the first of two stints on the coaching staff at NCAA Division II Lincoln Memorial University, under Head Coach Josh Schertz. During his time at Lincoln Memorial, Cottrell was part of 142 overall wins, four 25-win season, three South Atlantic Conference regular season titles, one SAC Tournament Championship, and four NCAA tournament appearances. Cottrell also spent time as the head coach at NCAA Division II Davis & Elkins College. Currently Cottrell is an 8th grade Social Studies teacher and serves as the Varsity Boys Basketball Coach at South Glens Falls High School.
